     Sony is known as one of the best when it comes to producing high quality camera sensors, both for mobile or for full-fledged cameras. Aside from that, as far as Sony's engineering goes, their devices range from slick to ergonomic. In relation to the current season (aka Summer), a lot of people are outdoors, mostly to travel for a well-deserved vacation. And us being Filipinos that we are, we love to capture these memories we shared during these times. That's where we enter one of Sony's most compact and portable cameras, the α5000.


     For the basics, the α5000 goes under the Alpha series, though basically the successor to the NEX-3N series Sony has previously released. The α5000 features a 20.1 million effective pixels, full-frame Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor, that has top sensitivy, extreme dynamic range, unsurpassed detail and low-noise features. Like its higher-end siblings A7 and RX10, the α5000 also shares the same Bionz-X processor that adds truer color-rendering for photos, better noise reduction, and hyper-real detail via high-speed processing. It also features a 3 inch, 180-degree tiltable LCD screen, built-in pop-up flash, a zoom lever, a 480-shot battery life, and is compatible with Sony E-mount lenses. On feature-side, the α5000 has full HD AVCHD video recording functionality, 4 fps burst shooting, 25-point contrast-detection autofocus, NFC, and wifi.

     Given all the highlights, what does that mean to an average consumer? The Sony α5000 is marketed towards beginners who would want to try out photography, and is basically for smartphone or compact camera upgraders. Even so, it shares almost the same features as ita higher-end siblings, making sure it will not be left out. Also, one of the most welcome features of this camera is the addition of the NFC and Wifi connectivity options. For smartphone owners, downloading the PlayMemories Mobile app and pairing the α5000 will enable the smartphone to act as a viewfinder and remote control. Also, the PlayMemories app has options to share the captured photos to social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

   
   
     The α5000 also has some advanced exposure modes (program, aperture priority, shutter priority and manual) in addition to iAuto, Superior Auto, Scene Selection and Sweep panorama. This is to ensure that the users have room to grow as they learn about the camera.

     Perfectly handy at 109.6 mm x 62.8 mm x 35.7 mm and weighs just around 210g, the Sony α5000 is a full-framed and capable camera that beginners and travelers will sure love for summer vacation (and all-year round, for that matter).
