Android 7.0 Nougat Rolled Out to Select Devices

Google has started rolling out the best and the greatest version of the Android operating system, yet, the Android 7.0 Nougat.

Android 7.0 Nougat has brought some changes of its predecessor, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but nothing much aside from some fresh features (on Android) that has been existing already on other operating systems. For instance, we have the improved multitasking in which a split-screen mode has been introduced to both smarthophones and tablets. Emojis have been expanded from over 1500 emojis currently available to having additional 72 new emojis. Multi-locale language support has been added as well, for people who would like to use two or more languages at the same time.

One of the most talked-about addition is the introduction of the Vulkan API for improved gaming process on Android devices. Graphics will look sharper than ever and more visually vibrant. Google also added Daydream, a new virtual reality platform that Google introduced a few months back, aiming to be the best mobile virtual reality platform to compete with console counterparts.

Doze mode has been revamped to work even when the user is on the move, It no longer activates by simply laying the device on a flat surface, but it now actiavtes instantly even if the smartphone is in a pocket or a tablet is in a bag, perfect for people that are always on the go.

The notifications area has been reworked as well. It is more cleaner, more minimal than that oon Marshmallow. Quick settings can now be re-arranged by the user to further customize the device shortcut usage. Notification direct reply also allows users to reply directly in the notification panel. This has been around for some time on some messaging apps as a feature, but now it has been included as a system-feature. Also, bundled notifications has now been introduced, allowing apps with multiple notifications (we're looking at you, Facebook) to place all the notifications on one expandable notification tile for better notification management.

And there's more. Data saver is now a selectable option that is easily accessible on the quick settings tray. Notification controls are also easily accessible by tapping and holding the notification of choice. Also, the display size is now easily manageable, which can help change the font size, as well as the icon sizes.

Software updates on Nougat are now happening in the background, so there is no need to connect and to manually update the software, in case otherwise necessary. This is bgoing to be a feature on select devices only, most notably, the Nexus line. File-based encryption has been introduced as well, allowing file-level encryption for better security. And last but not the least, the direct boot option, to run applications securely even before the user enters his/her password.

The first ever device to come with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box will be the upcoming LG V20. Devices with confirmed upgrades to Nougat which is currently being rolled out as of the moment are Huawei Nexus 6PLG Nexus 5XMotorola Nexus 6HTC Nexus 9Asus Nexus PlayerGoogle Pixel C, and General Mobile 4G
